About Jalyn

Jalyn Bender is the daughter of Patrick and Jenica (Pearson) Bender of Forestburg, and a Second Grader at Sanborn Central School. She has two younger sisters, Jacee in Kindergarten and Pasyn, age 3. Jalyn is also the granddaughter of Tim and Julie (Bowman) Pearson of Forestburg, and the late Rob and Sue Bender of Fulton. On January 18, 2022, Jalyn had a brain tumor surgically removed at the Sanford Children's Castle. The tumor was determined to be a Juvenile Polycytic Astrocytoma (JPA), which is considered a Grade 1 benign tumor. A few days after surgery she was diagnosed with Posterior Fossa Syndrome, a condition that develops in a small amount of children who have had surgeries like Jalyn. She was finally able to go home, only to have to return to the Castle for another surgery to address some complications. After another extended hospital stay, she and her family were able to go home on February 23, 2022. She will be receiving occupational, physical and speech therapy to help her on her road to recovery.

This fun evening of events is being organized as a way for our extended community to show support for "Jalyn's Journey." Even if you don't want to participate in the Bean Bag Tournament, please come anyway to enjoy the meal and fun activities, and show your support to the family. If you are unable to attend and would still like to contribute, you will find several options to do so below. Thank you!

Quilt Raffle

Thank you to Kathy Northrup for donating this gorgeous quilt to our raffle linup. The quilt features a striking blend of colors with a horse theme. It was also quilted by Kathy herself. Chances will be sold for $5 each during the event.

Also, thank you to Karen Lunn for another gorgeous quilt that will be on our raffle table. Chances are also $5 each during the event for this quilt.

Gun Raffles

Joey and Tammi Pearson (Jalyn’s great uncle and aunt) have donated three guns to be raffled off. The raffle drawings will be held during the bean bag tournament on Saturday, March 5. You do not need to be present to win.

The first gun shown below is a Mossberg Patriot Predator 22-250 Rem Bolt Action Rifle with Strata Camo stock and Patriot Brown Cerakote finish. Tickets are $20 each for this one. This gun will be raffled using a reverse raffle (names are drawn throughout the night with the last name drawn being the winner).

The pink and orange guns are each a Savage Rascal .22 single shot rifle. They are a super lightweight beginner gun. Tickets are $10 each for these. These will be regular raffles with just one winner’s name drawn for each. Each of these is a separate raffle.

If you would like to purchase raffle tickets ahead of time, you can use Venmo and account @Tammi-Pearson-2 and indicate how many of each raffle ticket you are purchasing (Mossberg or orange Rascal or pink Rascal) and what name to put on the tickets. Please include your name and phone number.

Raffle tickets may also be purchased at the Country Pumper, Forestburg Farmers Elevator or Jake's Lounge in Letcher.

Additional Information

All proceeds will go directly to the Bender family.
